1) How do I apply for the programs?
•All exchange applications will be completed through Laureate Programs Office. Once you stop by, we will have a small session to learn more about you, your academic and career plans in the future. Your individual improvement and achieving your personal goals through Laureate Programs are also important. There is no standardization when it comes to an individual that’s why we prefer to consult first before you apply to a program.
•Laureate Programs offer variety between disciplines. For example, a Law School Student can take Media related courses (as long as the Faculty approves) or Photography. Once you choose your institution/country you plan to spend a semester, you will be given a list of courses offered for International Students. You will be choosing those courses with your academic advisor. Our office will coordinate and guide you from the application until your arrival and during your stay in the host institution.
2) What criteria are considered for a semester exchange application?
•Language proficiency requirement is different for each program and institution. Please consult with the Laureate Office.
•Should have finished the 1st year of studies in the department and should have no courses left from the 1st year.
3) Should I have to take a language proficiency exam?
•You are only required to prove language proficiency for institutions in the U.S.
•If you have previously taken TOEFL or IELTS exams (exams are valid for 2 years starting from the exam date), you will be exempt. If not, please contact us for more information.
4) Will my GPA change when I complete the exchange program? How will I do the credit transfer?
•Your GPA score will not change. Example: if your GPA is 2.05 when you start studying at a partner university, you will be back with the same GPA to BİLGİ. You will have the total credits deducted upon the completion of the program. You can only transfer the courses that you have passed.
5) How will the credits be reflected on my transcript?
•The partner school will send your transcript with your official grades to our office and the courses you have taken during your exchange will be written as TRANSFFERED on your official BİLGİ transcript.
6) How many courses can I choose for each semester?
•It depends on which education system that the partner institution belongs to. Please ask the office for the institution that you are interested in exchanging.
7) How will I choose the courses?
•You will be provided a list of courses offered in the desired institution. We advise you to prepare the course list before you consult with your Department Coordinator at BİLGİ. Upon your selection, you will submit the document signed by your Department Coordinator to our office.
8) Should I pay tuition to the host university?
•Semester exchange: In order to participate the programs, students are liable to pay BILGI’s full tuition to BILGI. Scholarships are valid at home institution. Example: if you are on %100 scholarship and would like to apply for a semester exchange, you will pay %50 of BILGI’s tuition. Your scholarship will continue upon your return to BILGI.
•Summer and certificate programs: are paid programs and prices will vary on the program type and length. BILGI students and members have discounts on various programs.
•Graduate programs: Tuition discount for Laureate network institutions is available.
•For the exchange programs: students are liable to cover travel, accommodation, visa and other personal expenses. Some of the summer programs cover both tuition and accommodation.
9) How much should I pay for accommodation?
•Each institution has different accommodation options for students. Please ask the office for the institution that you are interested in exchanging.
10) Will you help with the Visa procedures?
•We will be providing all information and options regarding your visa, flight, accommodation, life etc. during your application process. We will not do any of the travel, accommodation and visa arrangements on behalf of the students but we are more than happy to answer all your questions upon request.
11) Will there be an International Office in the host institution?
•Yes, every institution has an International Office where they register courses and help students upon their arrival until they leave the country.
