The University of Liverpool, a part of the prestigious Russel Group whose members include Oxford and Cambridge universities and the possessor of nine Nobel Prizes, ranks among the 1% of the best universities around the world. The University of Liverpool is a well-established educational institution with its 27,000 students and 153,000 graduates. Students from over 100 countries study at the University of Liverpool.
The student life at the university revolves around the Guild of Students. The Guild both reinforces the social life on campus and serves as a center for advice, interest groups and student representations.
The main campus of the university is five minutes walking distance to the Liverpool city center and just near the cathedral. The centerpiece of the campus is the original redbrick Victoria Building. Built in 1880, the building was restored as a gallery and museum.
The campus has 192 non-residential buildings of which 69 are lecture rooms and 114 are research centers. Students who are citizens of the Turkish Republic are admitted to dual degree programs through the central placement done by ÖSYM, which is obligatory for higher education in Turkey. Students who are not citizens of the Turkish Republic are admitted to dual degree programs according to the “Directive on Admission Rules for Students with Foreign Nationality and Students from Abroad” which determines the rules and procedures regarding the admission of foreign national students to İstanbul Bilgi University. Students of international joint degree programs at BİLGİ or another higher education institution abroad or in Turkey are admitted to dual degree programs in accordance with the “Regulations on Horizontal Transfer” put into effect by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the arrangements made by BİLGİ according to this regulation. However, regardless of the class or the semester they are admitted to and the courses transferred, students must study at BİLGİ at least for one year; and they must study at BİLGİ during their sophomore and junior years and at UoL at their senior year.

2. What does Dual Degree mean?
Students registered to BİLGİ-UoL Dual Degree Programs study at BİLGİ during their freshman, sophomore and junior years and at UoL during their senior year. Students who successfully complete the program are given a degree by both universities.
3. Are Dual Degree Programs more difficult than other programs?
Yes, they are difficult in the sense that
- The required level of English language skills is higher.
- Students who cannot fulfill the necessary academic achievement condition cannot start their studies at UoL until they do so. This may cause loss of one academic year.
4. Do students receive two diplomas?
- Yes.
5. Is the UoL degree accredited by YÖK?
- Yes. Dual Degree Programs are accredited by YÖK.
6. Do students registered to Dual Degree Programs have to get visa before they go to Liverpool?
- Yes.
7. Is there any conveniences provided about getting a visa?
- BİLGİ and UoL agencies will be appointed to help students with their visa applications.
8. What happens if I cannot get a visa?
- In the case that official authorities do not give students a visa, students do not have a right to claim compensation from the universities and also universities do not have a right to claim compensation from the other party.
9. What kind of an agreement was made between BİLGİ and UoL? Does UoL monitor BİLGİ? Is there a quality assurance?
- Within the protocol, BİLGİ guarantees to comply with all academic requirements set forth by UoL including admission criteria; necessities concerning curriculum, evaluation, development, student transfer, employment (recruitment) and quality assurance mechanisms. BİLGİ also guarantees to comply with all conditions subjected by UoL to obtain or retain accreditation with The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
10. Where do students who go to study at UoL stay?
- Students who go to study at UoL may rent a house according to their preference and financial situation or stay UoL dormitories if there are rooms available.
11. Do you provide any support to students who go to study at UoL for finding a house/dormitory?
- The University of Liverpool International Office will help students in this respect.
12. Is there a private advisor for BİLGİ students to consult when they have a problem?
- In case of a problem, students may consult to their academic advisors and BİLGİ International Center.

3. Is it possible to transfer to UoL before completing the first three years?

- Students must fulfill the English language requirement as indicated below:
(a) IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Minimum Score: 6,5
(b) TOEFL - CBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language - Computer Based Test): Minimum Score: 213
(c) TOEFL - PBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language - Paper Based Test): Minimum Score: 550

6. Can I apply for a double major in another program when I am registered to Dual Degree Program?
- No.
7. Can I apply for a minor program when I am registered to Dual Degree Program?
-Yes.
8. Can I take courses in summer schools when I am registered to Dual Degree Program?
- Yes.
9. Can I participate in exchange programs when I am registered to Dual Degree Program?
- Yes.
10. Is the grading system at UoL different?
- Yes. The grades are given on a 100-point grading scale.

1. Is there a condition for going to UoL after the junior year?
- Yes. In order to continue their studies at UoL, students of Dual Degree Programs must
(a) pass all required and elective courses within the first three years’ curriculum,
(b) have the grade point average of 2,00 out of 4,00 within the first three years’ curriculum.
(c) have a grade higher than D out of 12 credits in all required and elective courses of the first three years’ curriculum and have a grade higher than D out of 6 credits in all required and elective courses of the second and third year’s curriculum.
(d) be successful in all courses they take outside of the first three years.
2. Can I transfer to another program if I fail at UoL (my last academic year)?
- Students who are dismissed from UoL are also dismissed from Dual Degree Program. However, in accordance with “Regulations on Joint Degree Programs” and “Regulations on Horizontal Transfer” by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) without prejudice to their application and internal transfer rights, students who fulfill the conditions indicated in “Rules on Internal Horizontal Transfer “by BİLGİ can make an internal transfer to another undergraduate program at BİLGİ based on their final grade at BİLGİ.
1. How much do I pay for Dual Degree Program?
The annual fee specified for 2012-2013 academic year is 24,950 TL+VAT. The overseas tuition that students must pay for the year they study at the University of Liverpool will be determined by UoL.
2. Which extra charges are covered by the university?
Extra charges are covered by students.
3. What would be my estimated expense except for the tuition fee?
An estimated amount of 10.000 pound sterling is needed for living expenses for one academic year in Liverpool.
4. What are the scholarship opportunities ?
There is a 100 % ÖSYM scholarship quota for each program. Please click for all opportunities of scholarships BİLGİ offers. But, on the fourth year of the University of Liverpool Dual Degree Programs, no other scholarship opportunities except for OSYM scholarship will be provided.
