By committing to the highest standards in teaching and research and considering music as a constitutive feature of human agency, BİLGİ Music Department strives to empower its students to deeply explore, understand, and give form to their own intellectual, emotional and creative energies. Combining composing, recording and using advanced technological tools to create music in an integrated course of study, the program aims to enable students to perceive music in an open-minded way and share their perceptions with others through the vocabulary of music. Therefore our mission is to provide a progressive environment for our students to be engaged with music as a discipline that meets creative process, technology, industry and culture.
A person pursuing a career in music today needs to be competent in several different areas in the field: playing an instrument, composing, recording and using advanced technological tools to create music. The BİLGİ Music Department aims to combine these areas in an integrated course of study, bringing together training in contemporary computer-based technologies with a strong foundation in the musical arts.

The Music Department offers a broad array of courses in two basic areas: fundamentals of music and computer-based music technologies, as well as courses that combine these two areas. The fundamentals of music component of the program includes courses in music theory, musicianship, tonal and rhythmic training, music history, composition, electronic music, ensembles and world music. The technologies courses include audio recording, live concert recording and sound reinforcement, multi-track studio recording/processing/mixing, MIDI, acoustics and others.

The Music Department has three ensemble studios where student bands may practice, one recording studio that is equipped with Pro Tools digital software and one MIDI studio, both of which are available for recording demos, soundtracks and student projects.

BİLGİ Music Department graduates are fully equipped to work in many fields in the world of music: as active musicians and composers as well as in studios, in concert organisation and in music journalism and other music writing.
