The Master of Arts Program in International Relations aims at combining a solid foundation in the discipline of International Relations, with an area of concentration in Turkish-Greek relations. The curriculum is designed to reflect these two principal objectives of the program by enhancing the students' general knowledge of theory and practice of international relations and by enabling them to specialize in the politics and international relations of Turkey and Greece. The program offers courses in the theory of international relations, foreign policy analysis, policy and politics in Turkey and Greece, and nationalism, from comparative perspective.
Since the recent past, Turkey and Greece have started developing a new understanding in their bilateral relations in an effort to overcome traditional disagreements and to pave the way for rapprochement. This means than, on the one hand, obstacles hindering the study of Turkish-Greek relations within a more positive and objective framework are now eliminated, and on the other hand, that the need to establish an institutional framework to study Turkish-Greek relations in a constructive manner is now greater than ever.
As the relations between Turkey and Greece enter a new phase, it is expected that interaction between the two countries will increase, as will the need for well-trained experts. This program will contribute towards the creation of a pool of specialized experts in the field. The curriculum is intended to be an advanced, specialized academic preparation for individuals who would become the trained experts, knowledgeable in regional issues and realities. Apart from providing an excellent infrastructure for future academics planning to work on different aspects of Turkish and Greek studies, the program would appeal to diplomats, journalists and government officials from both countries working, or a planning to work, on different aspects of Turkish and Greek studies.
