With his graduation project titled ‘Public Screen’, alumnus of BİLGİ Department of Architecture Kemal İlker Aldemir received World Championship Silver Medal in WASA-World Architecture Student Awards in which more than 1750 projects from 124 countries competed. Aldemir designed his project advised by Assoc. Prof. Fulya Akipek and Faculty Member, Esra Sakınç, PhD.

‘Public Screen’ was designed as a technological public urban library located in Bosphorus where its users could learn together, interact with each other, and experiment.

On the basis of the idea that the mansions, public buildings, towered buildings, and palaces on the shore of Bosphorus that were built at different historical periods create an urban exhibition perception, Aldemir designed this urban library as an addition to this urban exhibition and as a landmark building.

In the project, the water is experienced continuously by cutting the building off the ground. Designed with wide steps that can be used for events or as seats, the building allows users to connect with the dazzling Bosphorus view on each step. Thanks to the steps, users are able to create their own meeting place or quiet working space.

One of the world’s largest architecture student competitions, the WASA World Architecture Student Award is held in Japan, China, the United States, and Europe. 210 different universities across the world participated in the World Architecture Student Awards for 2022. İstanbul Bilgi University was the only university that participated and was highly ranked in the competition from Turkey.
