ABOUT
I am an Associate Professor of Sociology and Principal Investigator of Anticipating Reproductive Futures (TÜBİTAK project, 2025–26). My research focuses on emerging technologies in biomedicine and economic life. I examine individual experiences and expectations, public debates, marketing practices, and institutional and regulatory frameworks surrounding technologies ranging from artificial intelligence to fertility preservation and tracking. Earlier in my career, I studied social policy and interest representation.
My research has been funded by TÜBİTAK (twice), the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships, the AXA Research Fund, and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies. I was shortlisted for ERC Starting Grants. My work, both solo-authored and collaborative, has been published in journals including Social Science & Medicine, BioSocieties, Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, Critical Sociology, Social Policy & Administration, European Journal of Women's Studies, and Economy and Society. My research and views have been featured in media outlets such as New Scientist, Al-Monitor, Dünya Gazetesi, Evrensel.
Prior to joining Istanbul Bilgi University in 2018, I was an assistant professor at Izmir University of Economics, a postdoctoral fellow at Koç University, a visiting scholar at Columbia University, a doctoral and postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, and a research assistant at Boğaziçi University.
I received the degree of Doctor rerum politicarum in 2013 from the International Max Planck Research School on the Social and Political Constitution of the Economy, a joint program of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies and the University of Cologne. I hold an MA in History and a BA in Political Science and International Relations.
