PUBLIC STATEMENT

In recent days, various comments and assessments have been made in the public sphere regarding the employment status of a faculty member at our University. In order to ensure that the public is accurately informed, we consider it necessary to make the following statement.

The process in question is not related to the faculty member's academic work, scholarly activities, views, or opinions expressed publicly. Rather, it concerns an administrative process carried out entirely in accordance with the applicable legislation.

The legal status requiring the faculty member to be assessed as a foreign national academic staff member was identified during record verification and data matching procedures conducted by the competent public authorities.

Pursuant to Article 34 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547, the employment of foreign national academic staff at universities is subject to specific legal procedures and authorization requirements. Accordingly, the procedures prescribed by the applicable legislation were followed, and as a result of the assessment, the faculty member's appointment could not legally be maintained in its current form.

İstanbul Bilgi University remains committed to the principles of academic freedom, freedom of thought and expression, and institutional autonomy, and conducts all administrative processes in accordance with the rule of law and the applicable legislation.
