Program Structure
İstanbul Bilgi University Digital Game Design Undergraduate Program expands the university’s communication, media, and design-oriented educational approach, which has been ongoing since 1996, and brings it into the field of games in line with the requirements of the digital age. The program treats digital games not only as a field of technical production but also as a form of cultural, aesthetic, and communicative expression.
The program’s core approach is to position game design as an interdisciplinary process of production and communication. In this regard, students work in interaction with various fields such as design, computer science, visual communication, cinema, and new media. This structure places teamwork, creative problem-solving, and the integration of different areas of expertise at the center, in line with the nature of game development processes. Thus, students acquire not only individual skills but also multidisciplinary production practices.
The Digital Game Design Undergraduate Program considers games as systems that are rule-based, interactive, and meaning-generating. In this context, games are treated as dynamic communication environments in which the designer creates specific experiences, emotions, and messages. The program particularly focuses on areas such as player experience (UX), game mechanics, narrative design, and interaction design, aiming to develop students’ creative and analytical thinking skills.
Throughout the educational process, students experience all stages of game development, from the formation of an idea to prototyping, from testing processes to publication. By offering content that encompasses both independent (indie) production practices and industry standards, the program aims to graduate students who are ready for the industry.
Graduates are equipped to work in various roles such as game designer, game developer, user experience designer, narrative designer, and in creative technology fields. The main goal of the program is to train designers who can think player-oriented, are innovative, possess a critical perspective, and are capable of contributing to the rapidly evolving digital game ecosystem.
