About the Program

Civil Engineering has been around for centuries with most of the basic methods of manual construction. Increasing population and urbanization reinforce the importance and popularity of this discipline in our times as well. At the same time, advances in computer science and automation have prompted Civil Engineering education to incorporate new methods and tools. While the focus is still to provide solutions to physical problems using mathematics, increased utilization of computer technologies is becoming an integral part of Civil Engineering education programs.

Therefore, the BİLGİ Civil Engineering program extensively utilizes computerized tools in designing, planning, computation, and simulation to prepare its graduates for their professional careers. The BİLGİ Civil Engineering program aims to provide an education that will produce engineers equipped with a solid foundation in Civil Engineering who will have the ability to produce research-based information and products to serve the society. Empowering our Civil Engineering program with the resources of BİLGİ Engineering Faculty and with İstanbul Bilgi University’s strong background in social sciences, we strive for creating a family of Civil Engineers who are creative and self-confident, who can follow advancements in technology and incorporate them into professional life and, moreover, who have an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

Natural disasters, especially earthquakes, are recurrent events in our country. Therefore, to produce graduates with the breadth and depth of knowledge in Civil Engineering sufficient to design structures that are resistant to earthquakes and other natural disasters is a leading objective of our program, in which our mission is to provide a sense of social responsibility, awareness of environmental problems and the capability of creating environmentally friendly and energy-efficient designs.
