About the Program

Mechanical engineering is one of the largest, broadest and oldest engineering disciplines. Mechanical engineers use the principles of energy, materials and mechanics to design and manufacture machines and devices of all types. They create the processes and systems that drive technology and industry.

The key characteristics of the profession are its breadth, flexibility and individuality. The career paths of mechanical engineers are largely determined by individual choices, a decided advantage in a changing world.

BİLGİ Mechanical Engineering program is designed to give students the formation they will need to become the engineers the sector is searching for, in addition to ensuring that they benefit from the university’s strength and perspective in the social sciences.

During the first year of their education, BİLGİ Mechanical Engineering students will strengthen their core knowledge; during the second year their substructure courses will develop the analytical skills that contain the structural character of engineering; core and elective courses in the third year will develop the design skills particular to the field of engineering. The final year of education will be taken up with implementation classes in the sector in addition to a graduation project involving design and application in which they will apply all the engineering knowledge and skills they have acquired. Within this structure, elective courses in human sciences, art, literature, law and social sciences will gain them the ‘BİLGİ identity’ that makes BİLGİ Engineering students different.

Mechanical Engineering graduates will be able to understand core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science and structural analysis and use these core principles along with tools like computer-aided engineering and product lifecycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices and more.
