Structure of the Program

The MA in Media and Communication Systems is a two-year program designed to provide an in-depth education in the field of media. During the first two semesters, students take a total of four core courses. MED 501 and MED 502 introduce students to foundational media theories, while the core seminar courses, MED 505 and MED 506, provide the academic writing and research skills required for graduate study. In addition to the core courses, students may take two elective courses in the fall semester and three in the spring semester.

Students who successfully complete the required coursework are eligible to proceed to the thesis phase. During the following two semesters, students enroll in thesis courses and prepare and defend their master’s thesis.

Classes are held on weekdays, usually from 19:00 to 22:00 and occasionally from 15:00 to 18:00. The medium of instruction is English; therefore, theses must be written in English.

The program provides a solid academic foundation for students who wish to pursue a PhD in media and communication studies.
