The Istanbul Commercial Registry is the filing authority for 48 percent of all Turkey's commercial registration activity, which makes it a very important institution for the proper implementation of the new Turkish Commercial Code ("TCC"). The Istanbul Commercial Registry began preparing for the new TCC with a presentation given by Prof. Dr. Ünal Tekinalp, the Chairman of the Commission for the TCC. This time, the Registry invited two academics from the Istanbul Bilgi University's Commercial and Corporate Law Department, Prof. Dr. Veliye Yanlı and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gül Okutan Nilsson, who gave a seminar for the employees of the Registry. The intensive seminar which lasted for two full days on 8 and 9 October 2011 served to explain the provisions of the new TCC on the commercial enterprise and companies. Deliberations were also made on the current practices of the Registry and how they would be affected by the new law. A similar intensive seminar was held last year by Prof. Dr. Yanli and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Okutan Nilsson for the Turkish Capital Market Board.
