This seminar is a part of VCDMFA Graduate Curricular Program "VCD 505 Concept Development"
and jointly organized with the Graduate School of Social Sciences. It is open for general audience.
In the seminar, Beral Madra will particularly refer to the seminal work of Vilem Flusser "Video Let Us Philosophize".

BERAL MADRA is an art critique and curator. Since 1984, she is the director of BM Contemporary Art Center, which moved to its new space BM-SUMA, Contemporary Art Center, in September 2007. She coordinated the 1st (1987) and the 2nd (1989) Istanbul Biennale, curated exhibitions of Turkish artists in 43rd, 45th, 49th , 50th and 51st Venice Biennale. Since 1984 she has organized solo and group exhibitions of local and international artists in her art center and in other official art spaces in Istanbul.
Beral Madra is representing Istanbul scholarship of Berlin Senate since 1995. She is founding member of Diyarbakır Art Centre (established September 2002) , founding member and president of AICA, Turkey (established 2003), and founding member of AMCA - Association for Modern and Contemporary Art of the Arab World, Iran, and Turkey.

Recent exhibitions: Check in Europe, European Patent Office, Munich, June-July 2006; Advisory curator for Sinopale, August 2006 and 2008; “Neighbours in Dialogue”, Exhibition for the Collection of Ars Aevi, Sarajevo, 2007in Istanbul, 2008 in Sarajevo; “Captivated by Bakhchesaray”, Crimea, 2008; “Between Arrival and Departure-Istanbul Scholarship Artists”, 2009; ”Making Interstices”, Central Asia Pavilion at 53rd Venice Biennale, 2009.

She has been writing articles and reviews for daily newspapers since 1980. Since 1999 she is writing culture criticism for Radikal, daily newspaper.
