Date: 27 March 2012, Tuesday
Time: 19:00-20:30
Place: Santral Campus, E1-301

This conference is made possible with the contribution of the Istanbul Bilgi University Clinical Psychology MA Program, İstanbul Nöropsikanaliz Çalışma Grubu (Istanbul Neuropsychoanalysis Study Group), Doku Bireysel ve Kurumsal Danışmanlık Merkezi (Doku Individual and Coorperate Consulting).

A member of the International Neuropsychoanalysis Association, Lisa Ouss will be presenting a summary of the psychoanalytic and neurobiological perspectives on hysterical and conversion disorders. From these perspectives, how psychological dynamics are transferred to abnormalities in perception and functions of the body, or transformed into dissociative conscious states will be discussed. Lisa Ouss will also be talking about recent experimental neuroscientific research that sheds light on hysteria. The theories and paradigms based on clinical hypotheses that are overlooked in neurobiological research will be discussed, as well as the interesting paradigms psychoanalysis can provide on hysteria, to the fMRI studies. We hope that this conference which will explore the interaction between psychic and neurological foundations of “hysteria and conversion”, the major topic in “Studien über Hysterie (Studies on Hysteria)” which was published in 1895 by Breuer and Freud and which has inspired Freud in his psychoanalytic theoretization, will attract your interest.
