Civil Disobedience and Human Rights Law Workshop

Speaker: Assoc. Prof. Nergis Canefe (York University) 

Associate Professor Nergis Canefe from York University (Canada) Department of Political Science will be teaching a seminar course on "Civil Disobedience and Human Rights Law" as a visiting professor at İstanbul Bilgi University Faculty of Law. 

• Seminar is open to 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students from departments of Law, Political Science, International Relations and Sociology at İstanbul Bilgi University as well as Erasmus students.  
• Good command of English language is a prerequisite.
• Due to limitation of seats, applications will be accepted on a first come basis. 
• All students wil be awarded a certificate upon successful completion of the seminar.
• Seminars will take place at Dolapdere campus, all-day on the 24th, 25th and 26th  and as three-hour sessions (18:00-21:00)  in the afternoon on the 28th and 29th.

Nergis Canefe:
“Nergis Canefe (Ph.D York, 1998, SJD candidate, Osgoode Hall Law School) is Associate Professor of Political Science, Public Policy and Law at York University, and associate director of Centre for Refugee Studies. Her areas of interest are transitional justice, memory and trauma, minority and human rights, critical citizenship studies, and crimes against humanity. She has more than fifty scholarly articles in books and journals including Citizenship Studies, Nations and Nationalism, Balkanologie, Turkish Studies and Rethinking History. She published a co-edited volume Turkey and the European Integration (Routledge 2004) and a volume in Turkish titled Citizenship, Identity and Belonging: Limits of Turkish Nationalism (Bilgi University, 2006). She is currently working on a manuscript on Crimes Against Humanity in International Law.”
