"Hate” Documentary Screening and Talk

The documentary “Hate” aims at raising social and political awareness about hate crimes through presenting the harm of hate crimes on people’s lives directly via the narratives of victims. Directed by Esra Açıkgöz and Hakan Alp, the documentary handles hate crimes through the testimonies of subjects of such crimes. The documentary listens to the voice of people who have experienced the hard conditions of being the “other” in various parts of Turkey. For the documentary, long hours of interviews were conducted with people in different cities who have been the victim-witness of 10 different hate crime acts. Just to name a few: Şafak Pavey-MP of CHP, Öykü-a trans person, Fevzi Çelik-a Kurdish worker, İhsan Özbek-Chairperson of Turkey Salvation Church, Sevim Polat-a witness of Maraş pogrom…

The event is organized by Tarlabaşı Community Center in collaboration with İstanbul Bilgi University Center for Migration Research in the context of “2014 Volunteer Activities of Tarlabaşı Community Center”.

The event is free to participate. There will be English subtitles for the documentary.
