What is a Buddy?
A buddy is a student who volunteers his/her time to helping and being a friend to an International Student coming to BİLGİ as an exchange, Erasmus, guest student or degree seeking.
As well as learning about new cultures, it is also an opportunity to improve your English. Why would you want to do this ? Because as an International Student, coming to Istanbul by knowing little maybe nothing about the city and how things work and is not so easy. By offering a Buddy program to international students we help them to settle in to their new life in Istanbul by pairing international students with current BİLGİ students who willl provide the friendly face, helping hand, and friendship that can make a world of difference. Being a buddy is a great experience!
So what must you do as a Buddy?
•First to meet at the airport or explain how to use public transport to reach their accomodation
•Also helping them to find accommodation
•Applying for a residence permit, registering a phone or buying a phone with a sim card and also getting a student travel card for transport
•Helping with course registration as they do not know the system
•Showing them around the city, being a friend to them and answering their questions (locating banks and grocery stores near by)
•Meeting up to chat over a cup of coffee or showing them around in the city
