‘The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods’ has become part of Turkish domestic law on 1 August 2011. These rules, which constitute the “common” sales law of 83 contracting states, are now applicable besides the sales law provisions of the Turkish Code of Obligations.

Istanbul Bilgi University organizes a certificate program in English with the aim of introducing this Convention to Turkish lawyers. The program is targeting to inform participants about the basic principles of the CISG, the similarities and differences between Turkish sales law and the CISG and how to access international resources related to the Convention. Courses will be held on September 16/17/18 and 1/2 October from 4 pm to 8 pm and on 3 October from 9 am to 1 pm. Participants attending 24 hours of the program will receive a certificate.

In the first part of the seminar (16-18 September), Prof. Dr. Ulrich G. Schroeter (http://www.ulrichschroeter.com) will first explain the scope of application of the CISG,  interpretation of the Convention, gap filling and access to resources regarding the Convention. Then he will go on with topics like formation of a sales contract according to the CISG and the obligations of the parties.

In the second part of the seminar (1-3 October), Dr. Florian Mohs (http://pestalozzilaw.com/lawyers/portrait/florian-mohs.html) will deal with breach of contract under the CISG, remedies of the buyer and seller, especially the extent of damages and interest, and finally exclusion of liability.
