Balkan Judeo-Spanish: Looking for the Speakers’ Point of View

updated at: published at:

Speaker: Ana Stulic (Université Bordeaux Montaigne-AMERIBER)

The seminar is organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Judeo-Spanish is a language that displays a lot of geographic diversity, contextual differences, and variation among social strata and status groups. As the language receded into endangered status, the ideas about its nature and basic features multiplied and became a contested domain. Ana Stulic, one of the foremost contemporary scholars of Judeo-Spanish, proposes to explore the perceptions of the native speakers of this language in a historical context.

The seminar language is English.
