The premiere of chamber music titled ‘Yok mu, Var’ (isn’t There, There is) by Faculty Member, PhD, Yiğit Özatalay from BİLGİ Department of Music composed for contemporary music group Hezarfen Ensemble will be performed in Bristol New Music Festival in the UK on May 7, 2022. The musical composition set to the poem of the same title by Edip Cansever will be performed by Research Assistant Deniz Güngören from BİLGİ Department of Music.

Established in 2010 and bringing the performance of contemporary music to İstanbul’s rich musical landscape since then, Hezarfen Ensemble will combine Turkish, Central Asian, and North African music with contemporary music in the program ‘Makam’ that they will perform in Bristol New Music Festival. In addition to Özatalay, the program will also feature the works by Bushra El-Turk, Mahir Çetiz, Çengiz Eren, Yiğit Aydın and Tolga Yayalar performed with makam instruments and Hezarfen Ensemble’s five-year Beyond East and West project.
