Molecular Biology and Genetics is more than a scientific discipline dedicated to understanding the fundamental mechanisms of life. Today, it plays a pivotal role in advancing healthcare, biotechnology, AI-driven biological data analysis, and sustainable technologies. The genomics revolution, high-throughput biological data generation technologies, and rapid developments in computational methods have transformed the life sciences into an unprecedentedly data-intensive and interdisciplinary field.
The Molecular Biology and Genetics Program at İstanbul Bilgi University aims to prepare students to become active contributors to this transformation. Our curriculum combines a strong theoretical foundation in molecular biology and genetics with hands-on laboratory training while integrating bioinformatics, computational biology, statistical modeling, and artificial intelligence as essential components of the educational experience. Our students learn not only to understand biological systems but also to analyze, interpret, and transform complex biological data into innovative solutions.
As part of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, our program provides a unique academic environment where students can interact with different engineering disciplines. This enables them to develop an interdisciplinary perspective that bridges life sciences, engineering, and data science.
Through our research-oriented educational approach, students have opportunities to participate in research projects throughout their undergraduate studies in areas such as personalized medicine, medical genetics, bioinformatics and computational biology, drug design, biosensors, enzyme technology, nanobiotechnology, and tissue engineering. In doing so, they apply theoretical knowledge to real-world research problems while strengthening their scientific thinking and problem-solving skills.
