The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948. Since then, December 10 has been a global day of commemoration and awareness to protect human rights, highlight violations, and remind states of their responsibilities.
Human rights violations are processes that go beyond individual injury, damaging the social fabric, creating intergenerational effects, and deepening psychological trauma. Studies show that these violations create significant psychological burdens not only in those who experience them but also in professionals who witness them and in human rights defenders through vicarious traumatization.
Organized by the Disaster and Psychological Trauma Center of Excellence, this colloquium aims to discuss both the traumatic effects of rights violations and the secondary burdens experienced by field workers within a holistic framework, in line with the meaning of December 10, Human Rights Day. Thus, the goal is to contribute to academic knowledge production and to develop new areas of thinking for rights-based, trauma-sensitive protective interventions.
