The project, led by Faculty Member Özlem Ulucan Açan, PhD, to develop new treatment strategies for breast cancer, received TÜBİTAK support

The project titled “Investigation of the interaction between epithelial-mesenchymal transition and ferroptosis in triple-negative breast cancer and evaluation of its use for novel treatment combinations” submitted by Faculty Member Özlem Ulucan Açan, PhD, from our University’s Department of Genetics and Bioengineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, as principal investigator has been awarded support under the TÜBİTAK 1001 - The Scientific and Technological Research Projects Funding Program.

Within the scope of the project, it is aimed to analyze the relationship between epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and ferroptosis in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), considering the challenges arising from limited therapeutic options and high drug resistance; to evaluate how this interaction can be utilized in the development of new treatment strategies; and to support the findings obtained through AI-assisted integrative analyses with experimental validations.

In the project, Faculty Member Candan Eker, PhD and Faculty Member Ali Deniz Dalgıç, PhD from the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at our university, and Assoc. Prof. Hilal Taymaz Nikerel from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Boğaziçi University will serve as researchers.
