The project titled ‘The Alignment of Prosodic and Gestural Prominence’ receives TÜBİTAK support
Our university’s English Language and Literature Department faculty member, Assoc. Prof. Aslı Gürer, has been awarded support from TÜBİTAK 2219 – International Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program for Turkish Citizens for her project titled “Alignment of Prosodic and Gestural Prominence in Turkish”. Gürer will carry out her project at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics.
The project aims to examine how prominent focus expressions in speech are highlighted within sentences. In this context, it will investigate which vocal (prosodic) and bodily (gestural) means are used to convey this emphasis in Turkish question–answer structures, and how these means are used together.
