Speaker: Dr. Tolgahan Kaya

Dr. Tolgahan Kaya is the Director of the Rail Transport Technologies Institute (RUTE) at TUBİTAK and a visiting lecturer at Istanbul Bilgi University Mechanical Engineering Department where he teaches Sustainable Engineering. During this seminar, Dr. Kaya will discuss topics related to multiple issues associated with the sustainability matter.

Abstract: In an era shaped by climate challenges and rapid technological change, sustainability is no longer an abstract ideal, it is an engineering responsibility. This seminar will explore how the choices we make today as engineers can shape the world future generations will inherit. Through examples from mobility, energy, and materials, we will discuss emerging sustainability trends, recent global initiatives, and practical strategies for designing systems that respect environmental limits while fostering innovation. The session aims to inspire a new perspective on engineering — one that balances performance and progress with long-term responsibility for the planet.
