Emergence of the Invention
- Inventions resulting from scientific work and research conducted at the university must be promptly reported to the Rectorate by the inventor using the Invention Disclosure Form.
- The inventor completes the Istanbul Bilgi University Invention Disclosure Form (IDF) and submits it to the Rectorate.
- The Rectorate conducts a formal review of the application.
IDF not formally acceptable
If the IDF is not formally acceptable, the Rectorate notifies the inventor of deficiencies identified in the disclosure within 2 months of receipt.
The inventor corrects the deficiencies within 1 month of notification.
IDF formally acceptable
If the IDF is formally acceptable, the Rectorate evaluates ownership rights related to the invention and communicates the decision to the inventor.
If the university does not claim ownership, the invention is deemed non-service invention status.
If the university claims ownership, it proceeds with the registration application for the invention.
- The university must submit the registration application within 4 months of notifying the inventor of its decision (or within a maximum of 6 months if an agreement is reached between the inventor and the university).
Licensing and Commercialization
-
Income derived from inventions for which the university claims ownership is shared between the university and the inventors proportionate to their contributions. The share allocated to inventors is regulated under the provisions of Law No. 2547.
The distribution of income, payment period, and other terms are determined through a contract to be signed between the university and the inventor(s).
