Banu Tomruk received her doctoral degree from Istanbul Technical University (2010) with the thesis titled; Urban Restructuring of Bursa between 2000-2010: Transformation Routes through Urban Discourse. She participated in Bauhaus Kolleg for the interdisciplinary graduate study themed as European Union Urbanism at Bauhaus Dessau Foundation (2007). She has directed Construction Management Graduate Program and 3rd year architectural design studio at Istanbul Bilgi University, Faculty of Architecture. She is conducting the courses named: “Mapping: Observing, Interpreting and Representing the City”, “Critical Urban Representation”,  “Introduction to Urban Design”, “Production of Space and the Urban Condition” and “Graduate Design Research Lab” at the same University. Her academic fields of interests are Architectural Theory and Criticism, Urban Studies and Critical Representation.
