The " General Course Catalog " lists all the undergraduate courses of the University in which some courses are marked as “Recommended for International Students” (courses offered entirely or in large part in English). If you do not speak Turkish, you should register only for those courses titled as Recommended for International Students. Turkish speaking international students may register for any course listed in the “ General Course Catalog ”.

The normal workload for a semester is 30 ECTS credits. We strongly advise that international exchange students not exceed 36 ECTS credits or 6 undergraduate courses a semester.

International exchange students may take courses from any faculty or department as electives, alongside their major field of study. Undergraduate students may register for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year courses depending on the program requirements of their home university and their areas of interest. 100 level courses are introductory, 200 level courses are introductory to intermediary, 300 level courses intermediary to advanced, and 400 level courses are advanced level undergraduate courses. Postgraduate students may register for 500 level MA courses, as well as take advanced undergraduate courses depending on the program requirements of their home university.

International students may register for TK 111 "Turkish Language for Foreigners-Beginners Level" and TK 112 "Turkish Language for Foreigners-Intermediary Level".

Highly recommended courses for international students are; IR 323 (fall and spring) "Turkish Politics and Foreign Policy" and IR 505 (fall and spring) "Turkish Politics and Foreign Policy- MA Level.

Obtaining a Visa

You can check the visa requirements on the following website https://www.mfa.gov.tr/visa-in... In order to stay in Türkiye more than 90 days, you need to apply for the Residence Permit. We will inform you in detail about the Residence Permit Procedure during the Orientation Day. If you own a blue card or a Turkish identity card you do not need to apply for a residence permit or neither visa, you can enter Türkiye with your ID card.

One of the requirements for obtaining a residence permit is having health insurance. Students must have health insurance in order to apply for a residence permit in Türkiye.

Option 1: Social security agreement between Türkiye and your home country

If Türkiye and your country have a social security agreement, you must visit the social security office (not your private insurance company) in your country before your arrival. They will provide you with a document that has been approved by the Turkish Social Security Office. This approved form can be used as proof of insurance for your residence permit application. For further information about the social security agreement, please contact the International Center at your home university.

Here you can find the list of agreements:

Germany TA 11

Netherlands N/TUR 111

Belgium BT 8

Austria A/TR 3

France SE 208-06 A FT & SE 208-28 FT

Turkish Republic of North Cyprus KKTC/TC 3

Romania R/TR 3

Bosnia Herzegovina BH/TR 4

Czech Rep CZ/TR 111

Macedonia MC/TR 4

Luxembourg TR/L 3

Albania AL/TR 4

Option 2: Private Health Insurance

If you wish to continue with private health insurance, you may choose any of the health insurance companies operating in Turkey. We cannot recommend any specific companies, as we do not have any partnerships with them. The cost will depend on the company and the coverage, so it is advisable to contact the companies directly for further information.

Please note that travel insurance will not be accepted for residence permit procedures. Therefore, when making your choice, ensure that the health insurance is for residence permit purposes and confirm that the company can provide you with a contract in Turkish.

If it is more difficult to arrange the procedures online, you can also sign a contract with a Turkish private health insurance company during the first few days of your stay.

Option 3: Private Health Insurance from Home Country

If you have health insurance from your home country, it will only be valid for residence permit procedures if the insurance company also operates in Türkiye. In this case, you should contact the company to have your contract translated into Turkish, signed, and stamped (only for residence permit procedures).

If your health insurance company does not operate in Türkiye, you will need to obtain a new Turkish health insurance policy in order to apply for a residence permit.

To avoid any misunderstandings, we would like to clarify that while your health insurance may be valid in Türkiye, it is important to check with your insurance provider. If the company does not have an office or operate in Türkiye, the insurance will not be suitable for the residence permit application.
